An Extra Surprise! — with more photos
Saturday, November 19th, 2011Because of our wonderful supporters, we have been able to furnish Dedeke with another set of much needed latrines.
These Ecosan latrines are a bonus for the village. We have built latrines that are used exclusively by the students. How these new latrines are going to be utilized will be determined by the village committee.

We want to give credit for the management of this project to Liqua Dossoh. She is a wonderful young woman who has been helping LeapingStone by working hand-in-hand with the villagers. She has managed this second latrine project from start to finish. She contracted with the masons, handled all the finances, and monitored the work. She also arranged for training on proper hygiene and maintenance of the latrines. Liqua has her own local nonprofit — Que le Soleil Brille — The Sun Shines. She has a desire to help her countrymen, and she is smart and determined. We are so lucky to have her on our team. Enjoy the photos of the new latrines!
AWESOME ANNIE B. RESULTS!
Sunday, October 9th, 2011As you may know, we have been participating in the local Annie B Fund Drive. We are excited to announce that we earned a total of $10,986.29! Those of you who participated in supporting LeapingStone during this drive have made a direct impact on the project in Dedeke, Togo. Your help will enable us to finish building the final three classrooms and office for the teachers. The village will then have classrooms for grades 1 – 6, a cistern for clean drinking water, hand washing stations and latrines for the students.
You have the power to make things happen — and you should take a moment to realize what you have accomplished.
With all our thanks, love and gratitude
Natalie and the LeapingStone Gang
P.S. We will be posting photos and updates as the building gets underway.
LIQUA AND LEAPINGSTONE
Friday, March 11th, 2011We are happy to report that Liqua is now sending us weekly reports from Dédékè. She has sent two reports, and here is what she has to say. The children are very happy with the first three classrooms and the new desks and chairs.
There has been a issue with the gutter to the cistern, this was news to us. We have passed this information on to the contractor who will fix the problem. The cistern is just a start for this village. They really need a proper well. Once the well is dug, the cistern can act as a back up should the well need repairs.
The contractor has started digging the latrines. We expect to get weekly reports and photos from them as the work progresses.
There is a lively Thursday market happening in Dédékè! Yeah!! Lots of good things happening. With Claire’s help, the women have opened their bank account. They have been selling corn. The oil used for the soap making has taken a big jump in price, so they are holding off making soap until the price drops again.
On a completely different note, — we want to ask those of you who have yet to “like” us on FaceBook, please go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/LeapingStone/136338933055735 and click the thumbs up sign. Please tell just one friend about what we are doing. Ask them to “like” us. We are working as fast as we can to raise the funds to finish the school. If you have any ideas about how to help, we would love to hear from you. Our supporters have been so great, and we know lots of you are full of ideas. Please don’t be shy about making suggestions. We would love to hear from you. Cheers!
