RAIN, RAIN, GONE AWAY!

Hey Everyone,

We had a wonderful email from Paul, our Liaison Officer.  He was at the village and had a great meeting with the village committee members.  Because of the late rains, many of the villagers were having to go into the fields to secure the crops for this season.  Apparently there was some concern of a food shortage, but that appears to have been alleviated.  Their work in the fields has been completed, and they are now able to help more with the building of the school.

The Chief of the prefecture made a visit to check on our progress.  He is very excited about what he sees.

I had an email from Gildas, our contractor.  He has been out of town for a few days and promises new photos tomorrow!

In the meantime, we have been gearing up for two fundraising events.  The first is the yearly Annie B’s.  This is a community-wide grant sharing event that allows us to share in grant money.  It runs for one month only — August 1 – 31.  During this month, every dollar raised is worth more than a dollar to LeapingStone.  Last year we raised a little over $3,000.  We would like to raise $5,000 this year.  This would enable us to build the latrines for the school.  It is a very easy thing to do, and I will tell you more about it soon.

The second event is our Bachelor Auction and Wine Tasting event.  Things are shaping up nicely.  I have wonderful volunteers – Becky, Sara, and Marisa.  I also have the most incredible woman helping me oversee the event — Jen Johns.  She is so organized and enthusiastic.  I am very lucky to have been introduced to her.

I am close to my target number of 15 bachelors.  If you live in the Chico area, please mark your calendars for October 1, 2010.  We would love to see you there!  More later…..

Cheers,

Natalie
